December 6, 2024: A Day in Montmartre – A Parisian’s Guide and Tips

Discover this bohemian neighborhood, full of Parisian clichés yet endlessly fascinating.

Oh la laaaa ! It’s Sarah, your Parisian Bestie! 🌟

How are you today? Here in Paris, things are good—even though it’s rainy and cold outside. But as always, the magic of the holiday season warms everything up, and there’s an exciting buzz in the air. ✨

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Petra and her husband Christophe, the sweetest Austrian couple I met last summer during an Emily in Paris tour. We’ve stayed in touch, and they came back to Paris to experience the city in its winter charm. Guess what? They asked me to show them one of the most iconic neighborhoods: Montmartre.

A Rendezvous at the Foot of the Moulin Rouge

We agreed to meet at 3:30 PM right in front of the legendary Moulin Rouge. Like true Austrians (a nod to their perfect punctuality 😉), they were right on time. So was I, of course—punctuality is one of my rare superpowers!

When I saw them wrapped up in their cozy coats, their smiles glowing despite the cold, we hugged tightly, so happy to see each other again. At that moment, I just knew this day was going to be something special.

Exploring Montmartre: A Genuine Itinerary

We kicked off our walk by strolling up the charming Rue Lepic—a perfect starting point to soak in Montmartre’s bohemian vibe. Along the way, I shared fascinating stories about this historic district:

  • The Café des Deux Moulins, made famous by the movie Amélie.
  • The artists like Picasso and Van Gogh who shaped Montmartre’s artistic identity.
  • Hidden, enchanting alleys far from the tourist crowds.

When we reached the majestic Sacré-Cœur, we paused to take in the breathtaking view of Paris. Even as a born-and-raised Parisian, this place still fills me with awe. How could anyone not be enchanted?

The Winter Charm of Montmartre

Montmartre feels like a village within the city, and in winter, it becomes even more magical. The cobblestone streets, twinkling lights, and the aroma of roasted chestnuts in the air—it’s simply unforgettable. Petra and Christophe were mesmerized, and seeing their wonder reminded me why I love sharing these moments.

Inspired by their sparkling eyes, I decided to create something special just for you: a complete itinerary to explore Montmartre in winter. Whether you’re visiting Paris for a few days or you’re a local looking for a little escape, this itinerary is for you.
